I just picked up TMBG Dial-a-Song and NIN The Downward Spiral (replacement...my old copy has been unusable for years now). So that's pretty cool. I've got my laptop totally happily running Debian, finally, with a little help from the Libranet install tools. Libranet is easily worth twice what it costs if you want to try out linux, incidentally. $40 for students, roughly. The email based tech support is stellar. They were able to answer a lot of the remaining questions I had about the niggling details about getting Linux to do what I wanted for me. I feel like I have a system that does all the stuff I want, and that I understand. Finally.
So that's the geek news. I went to LA for a weekend a couple weeks back. It was amazing. It was the reunion with my close circle of college friends. I cannot get enough of that group. I want to live with all of them again. Sweet god they are amazing.
I'm going to drive out to BG to watch The Ring with Jess. She saw it once, already, and says she wants to watch it again with me, but only on the condition that under no circumstances does she have to sleep alone afterwards. After reading PA today, I begin to suspect that I'll share her sentiment, so it's just as well. I'll bring several changes of pants to the theater just in case. So that's this weekend.
Teaching is going well, but I'm frustrated by my inability to find time to actually implement the projects alongside the students. This isn't proving to be too major of a problem, but I think I could be a lot more help if I were that on top of things. ::shrugs:: Bah.
Still enjoying the ballroom dance team thing, though I'd rather it weren't structured around the whole competition thing. But whatever, it's fun. I'm going to compete on the 9th, I think, which should be interesting. I have a partner, but it's unclear _which_ partner I have. Bizarre situation. They have to work it out among themselves and tell me next week who the hell I'm dancing with. But hey, beats the alternatives.
Watched WindTalkers last night. Good solid war film if you like watching people shoot each other a lot. But the plot wasn't real compelling from where I was sitting. And the resolution just made me feel emotionally foggy. I also got Murder by Numbers, which I'll be watching tonight. I have high hopes, but very low expectations.
Research is...eh...research. We've decided to follow my qual project out to the point where we can publish, if at all possible. But I'm really looking forward to a change of pace on that front. So...we'll see. At least now that the system more or less works, I'm getting coherent results.
Bart is back in town from Sweden and Kansas (bizarre pair of vacation spots, but he's Kansan, so...) Apparently he got mistaken for a Swede everywhere he went, often over the heads of actual Swedes. Funny shit. I'm excited to have them back in town, though.
::nods thoughtfully:: That's most of the news from Lake Woebegon. The rest involves my secret sexual attraction to lamp posts and safe deposit boxes. But that's a tale for another time. When you're older. Dead, probably. We can pillow-talk about it.
